Rob Harrison
Rob Harrison was a top athlete in the state of California. Harrison started out at a young age competing in sports. As a 9 year old Rob (Robbie) recorded the fastest time for 9 year olds in the United States in the 50 yard dash with an Amateur Athletic Union Northern California record of 6.6 seconds. He did this in a large track meet in Reno Nevada where he competed against future greats such as Kevin Willhite of Sacramento. At age thirteen he won the California State AAU age group championships in the 70 yard hurdles with another AAU record of 8.9 seconds beating sprinters from the LA Jets Track Club out of Compton Ca. He also won State in the long jump in the 12-13 year old division held in Porterville Ca. As a high school athlete Harrison entered his senior football season at just 16 years years old and showed his unique speed and athletic ability by leading California in rushing while playing for the Loggers at Eureka High School with 1802 yards in just ten games. He was second in CA in touchdowns with 24 in regular season play. He was voted onto the all California High School All North State Football Team along with Jack Del Rio and Willhite. He quickly showed his tenacious winning spirit as he entered his senior wrestling season. He won the county championship for the second time and won the North Coast Section Championship by pin.(He was the only competitor that year to win by pin at the NCS Championships.) He went on to place third in the 189lb class in the CIF State Wrestling Tournament losing only to future NCAA Division I Champion Dan Chaid in the semi-finals. Harrison entered his senior track season immediately after the state wrestling championships. Having more success he won four events in the county track and field championships including the 200 meter dash, ll0 meter high hurdles, long jump and triple jump and was also a top shot putter. Harrison followed this by winning the NCS Redwood Empire Championship in the 110 meter high hurdles. At the Cal Berkeley stadium a week later he won on his final attempt in the triple jump at the Meet Of Champions. Harrison qualified for the CIF state track and field championships in the 110 meter high hurdles, triple jump and long jump. His best jump of 48"91/2 was the sixth furthest jump at the state championships and over three feet further than the HDNL best ever jump. That summer he set the Los Gatos track record in the sprint 70 yard High Hurdles in a stealth 8.3 seconds. Harrison went on to play football for San Diego State University and later at Sacramento State University on full scholarships where the 6"2, 225 pound speedster set many rushing records such as l334 yards in a season with a National NCAA leading 7.5 yards per carry and a Sac State record 89 yard touchdown run. Harrison also set Sac State single game record running for 268 yards on only 23 carries. In college track he had marks of l3.9 seconds in the ll0 meter high hurdles, 23"6 in the long jump and 4.35 seconds in the 40 yard dash, and the second best decathlon score in San Diego State University history with just a year of training under his belt. His senior year in college he was on track to compete for the110 meter high hurdle National Title in Div II at Sacramento State but chose to concentrate on football. He was named the Sacramento Unions (the oldest newspaper in the country) "Sportsman of The Year". His senior year in college he was drafted as a fullback by the Oakland Raiders. He spent two years with the Raiders and one year with the Los Angeles Rams before having a serious injury and therefore not being able to play out the second year of his contract with the Rams. Harrison graduated college with a BA in Communications with an emphasis in media and broadcasting.
